Lacryma Christi, (also Lachryma Christi of Vesuvius, literally "tears of Christ"), is the name of a celebrated Neapolitan type of wine produced on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius . It is also, as archaeologists have discovered, the nearest equivalent to wine drunk by the Ancient Romans, having analysed microscopic residue left on the taps of the casks.

The town of Palinuro is part of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, famous for the caves along its coast. The name is derived from Palinurus, the helmsman of Aeneas, as recorded in the books of the Aeneid.

The Royal Palace (The Reggia ) is a former royal residence in city of Caserta  and the world's largest. It was constructed for the Bourbon kings of Naples the 18th century. In 1997, the palace was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, described in its nomination as "the swan song" of the spectacular art of the Baroque.

Modern day Paestum was in ancient times known as Poseidonia.
Notable  are the three ancient Greek temples which are in a very good state of preservation.
It is assumed that Poseidonia harbored refugees from its mother city Sybaris (Calabria) when that city was conquered by Croton in 510 BC.
