Excavations have unearthed the remains of the monastery and the crypt of Abbot Epifanio along with frescoes of the ninth century.

Rocchetta's historical center, also called Rocchetta Alta, or Old Rocchetta, was  partially destroyed in the late nineteenth century by a series of landslides .
In 1905,  following further ruinous events, the population moved to a lower  area, giving rise to the present village in the middle of a plateau, bordered on the west by the end of the chain Mainarde and east by the river Volturno.
